“MLK 101: The Man and his Legacy"”
Who was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? History has taught us that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader who fought fervently for human rights for Black Americans and the poor. He was more than just a visionary and an advocate for equality but became an integral part of the civil rights movement in the 1960s. As time goes by, we forget the sacrifices and activism of Dr. King. We will be screening a section of the documentary, Eyes on the Prize (The Awakening), as part of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Symposium on Social Change. We are pleased to have historian/professor Herman Beavers, whose areas of expertise include justice, equality, and community, lead a post-screening discussion.
